Overview
What is HELIS
HELIS is software designed to estimate the helical parameters of structures based on Cryo-ET data. Its core principle is to model helical structures as cylindrically rolled lattices. By analyzing the Fourier spectrum of unrolled surfaces, the lattice parameters are first estimated, which are then used to derive the helical parameters. The software provides an integrated suite of tools for analyzing helical structures, including algorithms for tracing and centralizing helical structures, cylindrical unrolling for curved helices, helical parameter estimation, and single filament sub-tomogram averaging (SF-STA). The outputs of HELIS offer intuitive insights into the target helical structure. Moreover, the derived helical parameters and SF-STA map can be used as initial values for subsequent high-resolution 3D reconstructions, such as those performed using single particle analysis (SPA) or sub-tomogram analysis (STA).
